Discover the diverse landscapes, cultural heritage, and authentic local experiences of Northern Thailand on this 4-day, 3-night Chiang Rai journey. Explore Chiang Rai’s iconic temples, vibrant local markets, and the distinctive Baan Dam (Black House), followed by a scenic boat cruise along the Mae Kok River to a Karen village.
Continue into the mountainous region of Doi Mae Salong, renowned for its lush tea plantations and spectacular scenery, with an opportunity to experience the local tea culture and visit the Akha village of Loyo. The journey then takes you to the Mae Fah Luang Botanical Garden and the legendary Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos meet along the Mekong River.
Combining cultural discovery, mountain landscapes, ethnic villages, tea plantations, historic landmarks, botanical gardens, and scenic river cruises, this itinerary offers an immersive introduction to the natural and cultural treasures of Northern Thailand.
Upon arrival, have your free time for leisure or wander around the city to admire the tranquil atmosphere in its surroundings. Stay overnight in Chiang Rai.
Morning after breakfast, we will visit the local market to discover the local products. After that we visit the world-famous Wat Phra Kaew where the Emerald Buddha image was once enshrined. Move on to Wat Phra Singh where one of Thailand’s most beautiful Buddha images is now enshrined. Then a short drive from Chiang Rai City to Black House. Baan Dam (Black House) is the unique creation of national artist, Thawan Duchanee. Part art studio, part museum, part home, Baan Dam is an eclectic mix of traditional northern Thai buildings interspersed with some outlandish modern designs. Lunch on your own account and in the afternoon we will take our boat cruise on Mae Kok river from Chiang Rai to Karen village. Transfer back to Chiang Rai.
After breakfast we continue the trip by heading to northern Thailand - a wooded, mountainous and beautiful area. This morning, you will explore the surroundings and the first road you will take is the one that leads to Mae Salong. Climb up and down the green hills, covered with tea plantations. Here, you will get a chance to taste the delicious tea produced by one of the many plantations of the region, before continuing your way towards the Golden Triangle.
From Doi Mae Salong, we will visit a village of ethnic minorities: the village Akah of Loyo.
Afterwards we will visit the Mae Fah Luang botanical garden. Finally, transfer to the Golden Triangle where we take a boat trip on the Mekong River to see Thailand, Burma & Laos triangle.
Overnight in Chiang Saen.
Have breakfast and free time until transfer back to Chiang Rai for departure.
